In the next coming weeks, you may find yourselves ask what's happening, why is it, who is it happening to, where is it taking place and when will it be going on till. In the resources below, you'll see the resources with infographics from the UCU about what they're doing, when, why and where.
Although it may be concerning, the reasons that the UCU claim are 'compelling reasons' again, will all be in the infographic resources provided to you at the bottom of this article.
---
Teachers and lecturers are striking. Although this will affect your lessons - the reasons are compelling.
- Industrial action is always the last resort, following extended and numerous talks with the college leadership. A ballot (vote) was held and the overwhelming majority of our [UCU] members supported a strike.
- It is a peaceful protest against the underfunding of colleges.
- Our unions have tried to negotiate a reasonable pay increase but talks have failed.
We can't tolerate this.
What can I do?
- If you are annoyed about lecturers striking, please email your MP to demand fairer pay for colleges. This website makes it easy to do so - www.writetothem.com
- Please show support to staff if you can; they are sacrificing their income for a better future for FE.
- Complain to the college managers to demand fairer pay.
- Explain the situation ti the people you live with and how you are affected. Show them the brochure (linked below) and ask them to help you complain.
