Hi there, and welcome to Pres's
On this Article for today, you can find things like: tips for getting started with your studies, ideas of resources to check out as well as a brief insight into personal experience from myself when I was still a student starting out on the courses, which should still provide a bit of insight into the kind of experience those of you starting your A-Level subjects.
Tips:
- For getting started out, firstly - a good idea is to ensure you have double checked all that you require for your chosen course or A-Levels, as it can be easy at times to forget or gloss over something when preparing to start
- Look at videos around online, as fun as it might be to look at Movies that portray college life in a certain manner, you can expect it to be less of a wild ride and more of a fun journey that you never have to worry about being left on your own to figure things out or to completely figure things out for yourselves.
- Consider it a fresh start, it's above all an even better chance to meet more individuals so try to balance out meeting new people with also learning more about your chosen course or A-Levels.
- Remember, this is an even better opportunity to set yourself personal goals you want to possibly complete before you finish your course as at some point you might find yourself ontop of what you have to do and with a little extra free time (considering if you've also double checked and also sent your work over to your lecturers or teachers for suggestions on improving, as it's just as important to know that there's always opportunity to improve.)
Personal Experience:
From this part on you'll have a little insight into how I first got on as a student, the things I wish I'd thought to ask, to try or to look into doing.
When I first began, like yourselves will - and this still goes for everyone on A-Levels as well, there was plenty of things completely new to me, the college environment being above all else on that front.
It's a much more different - and what I personally think it may (note that this is just my own opinion); I preferred it and still do prefer it above all else instead of going to a sixth form. Which may work for some, and that's great, but the environment here feels a lot more supporting and involved with you all.
Some of you may be coming from sixth forms after discovering the environment there wasn't what you were expecting. Well, with college - some things you all might be wondering is: 'What's expected of me?, is there rules around things you can and can't do?,Are there other services or ways to get to my campus?, what things could I do around my chosen course or A-Levels?' . And all of that, we will be answering. Of course like all locations, be it a place of education, a place of employment or even other countries for that matter; there are things that is expected of you which hopefully you will have all in your tutorials after induction have seen the video of the 5P's. If you haven't, then in this following link you can find resources around all of what I will be making mention of.
With this new environment, it may seem all too daunting and alien to begin with - and that's okay, so long as you always remember that there will be many others possibly also thinking or feeling the same.
So, around your studies as you go on you'll find there is plenty to do with it that the Moodle Page has a lot of resources available to you surrounding your studies, subject matters and many other things (with the Library for you starting your courses or should there be any of you finishing and instead progressing onto HE courses can find the attached link).
Do take note that this isn't just a "Oh there's probably very little on there or this isn't them advising it", but well and truly I wish I'd made use of these resources when I was also starting my course as although it's nice to try and look into things independently - these very resources are all here to aid you in your studies and pursuit to academic greatness.
Finally, with all that said and done with. I wish you all the best in your pursuits and know that I'll be present on sight for those of you at Roundhouse campus if you wanted to say hi, but for the rest of you there's still going to be plenty ways to reach us at the Student Union with this very website laying host to also a way of possibly suggesting any ideas you might have later on in the year but may not be seeing implemented, just note that in these cases it'll be mostly genuine suggestions and there'll be (present on the way of submitting these ideas or suggestions) a listing noting of what to expect or to avoid.
Have a Great next few years my academics!
